DESCRIPTION:
Perlite is a type of volcanic glass that is mined and then heated in big ovens until it “pops” into a round, white material.
This white stuff is added to seed-starting and potting soil to make it lighter and give plants’ roots more air.
It keeps water in the potting mix and improves drainage by letting air in.
Perlite is most useful in potting soil because it lets air in and helps water drain away.
There are tiny holes on the surface of perlite particles that hold water, and the particles themselves generate passageways in the soil that let air and water reach the roots easily.
As a result of these things, it is good for gardening.
AERATION: Provides perfect aeration and holds the right amount of moisture, can hold three to four times its weight in water
LOOSENS THE SOIL: When used in potting soil mixtures, perlite lightens the mixture and improves aeration and drainage
SOIL-LESS MEDIA : Perlite is used in potting mixes and as a medium for plant roots that doesn’t need soil.
NEUTAL PH: Perlite is used in potting mixes and as a medium for plant roots that doesn’t need soil. It has a pH of about 7 and is completely sterile, which is important for getting plant cuttings to grow roots. When used by itself, it lets in just the right amount of air and holds just the right amount of water.
LIGHT WEIGHT: Perlite can hold three to four times as much water as it weighs without getting soggy. And unlike soil or organic matter, it never disintegrates.
HYDROPONIC MEDIA: Perlite is also used in hydroponic systems all over the world, which help plants grow better.
When added to potting soil, perlite makes the soil lighter and helps it breathe and drain better. This is especially helpful when planting in big pots.
