Perlite is a common ingredient in soil mixtures for plants. It is a volcanic glass that has been heated and expanded to create a lightweight, porous material that aids in enhancing soil drainage and aeration. Here are some suggestions for using perlite in plant care:
Mix perlite with potting soil to create a well-draining and aerated soil mixture for your plants. The optimal ratio is 1:1 or 2:1. (potting soil: perlite).
Perlite can also be used as a top dressing to improve drainage and aeration of the soil. Simply sprinkle perlite on the soil’s surface and water as usual.
ROOT CUTTINGS:Perlite is an excellent medium for rooting plant cuttings. You can wet the perlite and insert the piece into it. The perlite’s porous structure helps keep the cutting moist and well-aerated.
HYDOPONIC MEDIA: Perlite is a popular hydroponic gardening medium. It can be used alone or in combination with other media such as coco coir or vermiculite.
SEED GERMINATION MIX :Perlite can also be used as a medium for seed germination. Mix perlite with a small quantity of potting soil or seed starting mix and sow seeds as usual.
Keep in mind that perlite is a soil amendment and should be combined with other soil components to create a balanced growing medium.
It is not a fertiliser and does not supply plants with nutrients.
