When to apply:
Bone meal for plants can be applied prior to sowing seeds or throughout the growing season, between February and November.
How to use bone meal as a fertiliser:
soil preparation: Spread bone meal fertiliser evenly across the soil or add to compost for planting. Ensure that the additives are thoroughly mixed. If the weather is dry, water the soil thoroughly.Growing season: if you are adding bone meal, sprinkle it evenly around the settled soil and fork it gently into the surface. Carefully avoid disturbing plant roots as you proceed. Water thoroughly.
For Potted plants in containers : apply bone meal fertiliser at the beginning of the season and then once or twice more during the growing season to help strengthen plants. Again, sprinkle it around the plants and work it into the soil with care, avoiding the roots; then, water thoroughly.
Before planting seeds in a vegetable plot containing bone meal, incorporate fertiliser and fork it into the soil with a garden fork.
New plants: Once you’ve made a planting hole fork a small amount of bone meal for plants into the hole. You can also add it to the compost and soil that will be used as the planting mixture. Water thoroughly.
Aftercare
Bone meal is a slow-release fertiliser, so continue to water regularly to aid its absorption into the soil.
