The Burgundy Rubber Tree is an easy, yet hardy indoor plant that is native to Southeast Asia. Commonly known as the Ficus Rubber plant, its glossy oval leaves and contrasting green and purple hues bring a modern touch to any home. While it starts off small in size, this plant grows into an indoor tree within a few years.
The Burgundy Ficus has large oval-shaped leaves that are a rich chocolate-burgundy color. Also known as the Rubber Ficus or Indian Rubber, this ficus plant is easy to grow and is pretty forgiving which makes it an excellent choice for plant newbies.
Ficus elastica grows in an upwards habit, and it tends to grow vigorously into an indoor statement houseplant.
Growing Conditions
Light: The darker green varieties can grow in near shade, while the variegated varieties require brighter light. Do not expose to direct sun.
Water: Water thoroughly in the summer, and mist often to raise humidity. During the winter, reduce watering but do not let the plant dry completely. Seek to raise the humidity in general.
Temperature: They do not like cold drafts or temperatures below 65ºF. The warmer, the better.
Soil: A well-drained potting soil is perfect.
