  • What’s the purpose of bone meal? The fertiliser gives the soil in the garden a great source of phosphorus and calcium. Phosphorus helps plants grow roots that are strong. It also helps flowers and fruits grow bigger and better.
  • If you are new to gardening and hearing this name for the first time, bone meal fertiliser is exactly what it sounds like. It is food for plants made from ground up or powdered animal bones.
  • Calcium strengthens bones. Bone meal fertilisers give plants plenty.
  • Vegetable gardens need phosphorus and calcium. Tomatoes, zucchinis, and peppers will yield better and healthier.
Calcium helps indoor plants grow root systems and stems.
Compost and manure are good soil amendments but often high in nitrogen and low in other nutrients.
The soil should balance nutrients for your plants. Bone meal helps to balance your garden.
Bone meal fertiliser improves organic soil structure.
We need many beneficial soil microbes. This enriches soil for plant roots  and accelerates growth and strengthens roots.
  • When to use it
Bone meal can be used on plants from February to November, before planting seeds or at any other time during the growing season.

    How to use  bone meal:
  • During preparation of the soil:  Bone meal fertiliser can be spread evenly on the ground or added to planting compost. Make sure it is well mixed. If it’s dry outside, water it well.

During the growing season, if you want to add bone meal, spread it evenly around established parts of the soil and gently fork it into the surface. Be careful not to damage the roots of plants as you do this.  water thoroughly.

Plants in pots: For established plants in pots, use bone meal fertiliser at the beginning of the growing season and once or twice more during the season to help the plants grow stronger. Again, sprinkle it around the plants, work it into the soil, being careful not to damage any roots, and then give the plants a lot of water.

Vegetable plots: If you use bone meal on your vegetable plot, add fertiliser and fork it into the soil before you plant any seeds.

Once you’ve dug a hole for a new plant, use a fork to put a small amount of bone meal for plants in the hole. You can also mix it with the soil and compost that will be used to plant the seeds. Water thoroughly..

    Aftercare
Bone meal is a slow-release fertiliser, so keep watering your plants often to help it absorb into the soil.
